QUESTION: How can an average person invest in a hedge fund? It seems that if you’re not an institutional investor or you don’t have $1 million to invest, you’re out of luck. I thinkthat’s not fair. How can a “little” person make it in?

ANSWER: Fair or not, hedge funds are an exclusive club. Thanks to SEC regulations, they are open only to accredited investors, namely institutions or individuals whose net worth exceeds $1 million and who have earned at least $200,000 annually for the past two years ($300,000 for married couples). They also require an initial investment of at least $1 million. For folks who don’t have that kind of change, hedge funds are a no-go.
