John Glushik and Garheng Kong Both Named Partner at Intersouth Partners

DURHAM, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 25, 2003–Intersouth Partners, one of the nation’s most experienced early stage venture capital firms, announced today that John Glushik and Garheng Kong have bothbeen named Partner at the firm. This announcement comes several months after Intersouth Partners publicized its newest $205 million fund to continue fueling the growth of emerging life science andinformation technology companies in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, making the firm the largest early stage venture fund in the Southeast.

Glushik has been with Intersouth since September 1999 and has a background in engineering and consulting within the information technology sector. He serves as a board observer for several companies, as well as serving on the board of directors of SmartPath, Inc. In addition to leading Intersouth’s latest investment in Xactional, Glushik has been involved in most of Intersouth’s recent technology investments. Glushik holds an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, an M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University. Glushik has received numerous industry and academic awards including a Draper Fellowship at M.I.T.

Since May 2000, Kong has been supporting Intersouth portfolio companies strategically, operationally and scientifically and has helped lead several of Intersouth’s recent life science investments, including Serenex and Sopherion. Kong has performed extensive research in the fields of drug delivery, cancer therapy, bioremediation, and self-assembled monolayers and has published ten peer reviewed scientific articles and numerous abstracts. Kong received a full scholarship to attend medical school at Duke University, graduated at the top of his class, and received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke in less than three years, the fastest in department history. He received a B.S. in both Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences from Stanford University. Kong was recently named a recipient of the “Top 40 Under 40” award by the Triangle Business Journal.
