WSJ – The European Commission wants to find out what strategies hedge funds pursue in the credit-default swaps market and what information regulators have on trading, among other things, at meetings Friday with banks, investors and regulators, a questionnaire seen by Dow Jones Newswires shows.
The information will allow the commission to decide whether new regulations are required to contain risks in the CDS markets which some politicians and supervisors say should be more tightly controlled, especially in the wake of possible speculation on the creditworthiness of heavily-indebted countries such as Greece.
