Venture capital advice

BUSINESSES will be given an insight into how to secure venture capital funding at a forum event in Cardiff tomorrow.

Among the speakers will be chief executive of Sir Terry Matthews’s high technology venture capital fund Wesley Clover, Simon Gibson.

Mr Gibson, who is also a board member of the Welsh Development Agency, will be speaking at the forum held at Jurys Hotel at 6.30pm.

The technology venture capital (VC) market is showing signs of a recovery, with capital investments rising in the US and optimism improving in the UK.

The latest quarterly MoneyTree survey says US venture capitalists invested $4.3bn in 669 firms in the second quarter of 2003, slightly up from $ 4bn into 647 firms in the first quarter.

UK VCs are expecting to benefit from the positive changes in the US.

The forum also includes investors from Xenos, Finance Wales and Lloyds TSB, who will present and discuss their ideas of what makes a sound business case for funding and the different types of investment available to Welsh digital media companies.

The event is part of Net.Works, brought together by Strategic-i Ltd and the @Wales Digital Media Initiative.
