Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, said Thursday that both hedge funds and private equity funds are good for financial markets, dismissing recent attacks on thesectors.
Speaking at a U.K. House of Commons all party parliamentary group breakfast meeting in London, McCreevy said the hedge fund industry now provides more than a third of the liquidity to Europe’s equity markets and the private equity industry is the most critical source of capital for start-up and developing businesses that stimulate innovation, competitiveness and growth.
