A team of young venture capitalists from Te Awamutu College has won the inaugural Venture Capital Game, organised by The Small Business Company.<\/p>\n
The team, which beat out 500 other teams from schools throughout New Zealand, amassed an impressive $22,118,294 from the original $2 million in start-up capital in just seven weeks (each week in the game represents one year in the New Zealand economy). Team members Paul Melville, Dane Macky and Nigel Pinkerton and their teacher, Gavin Hockly, walk away with prizes totalling more than $10,000 in value. The Venture Capital Game is an internet-based business game developed and produced by The Small Business Company and funded by Industry New Zealand’s Enterprise Culture and Skills Activities Fund. The aim of the game is to use technology to allow high school students to experience a real live business environment. There is no entry fee to play the game and entry is open to all secondary school students in New Zealand. A second game is scheduled to begin on the July 28.<\/p>\n
