{"id":27713,"date":"2012-03-01T08:49:56","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T13:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hedgeco.net\/news\/?p=27713"},"modified":"2012-03-01T09:03:44","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T14:03:44","slug":"deutsche-bank-hedge-fund-survey-predicts-growth-and-increased-institutional-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/03\/2012\/deutsche-bank-hedge-fund-survey-predicts-growth-and-increased-institutional-participation.html","title":{"rendered":"Deutsche Bank Hedge Fund Survey Predicts Growth And Increased Institutional Participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hedgeco.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/survey-295x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-27717\" title=\"survey-295x300\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hedgeco.net\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/survey-295x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>New York (HedgeCo.net) &#8211; Deutsche Bank&#8217;s tenth annual Alternative Investment Survey, which\u00a0was conducted in December 2011 by the Bank\u2019s Global Prime Finance business, predicts increased institutional participation in driving growth as hedge funds become an established and formidable part of the investment landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Institutions now account for approximately two thirds of hedge fund assets compared to less than one fifth in 2003.\u00a0Investors also predict continued growth, with an estimated net inflow of $140bn in 2012, taking industry AUM to an all time high of $2.26tn by year end.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 400 investor entities worldwide, representing more than $1.35 trillion in hedge fund assets and over two thirds of the entire market by assets under management (AUM), participated in the industry\u2019s largest and longest standing comprehensive hedge fund investor survey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe past 10 years have seen hedge funds add an impressive $1.39tn in assets,\u201d said Barry Bausano, Co-Head of Global Prime Finance and Head of Equities in the Americas. \u201cInvestors are committed to top performing managers, with cash holdings potentially adding an extra $39bn to the industry over the next six months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerformance continues to be key, and an increasing number of institutional investors recognize the added benefits hedge funds offer to their portfolios,\u201d said Anita Nemes, Global Head of Capital Introduction. \u201cAn impressive 80% of institutional investors either grew or maintained their hedge fund holdings in 2011 in a bullish endorsement of the hedge fund industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other highlights from the survey include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong> Consolidation will continue and large, successful funds will become even bigger. 44% of respondents are invested in managers with over $1bn in AUM, up from 25% in 2009. Nearly a third of respondents plan to allocate to managers with more than $1bn in AUM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong> Performance has consistently ranked as a key criterion for manager selection over the past 10 years. 80% of respondents ranked performance as one of the five most important factors this year, as investors remain committed to seeking talented, top performing managers irrespective of size.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of the investors surveyed individually manage and\/or advise over $1bn in hedge fund assets.
