WEST PALM BEACH, FL (www.HedgeCo.Net) – The Van Global Hedge Fund Index gained 2.8% net in November; with such strong performance, the index is now up 6.2% Net for Year to date. Most global stockexchanges rallied after the US presidential elections in November. According to VAN, The S&P 500 rose 4.0% while the MSCI World Equity Index gained 5.1% and the Dow Jones Europe Stoxx 50 jumped5.8%.<\/p>\n
The 6.2% net gain for VAN, year to date trails most major stock indices however. The S&P 500 has gained 7.2% while the MSCI World Equity Index and the Dow Jones Europe Stoxx 50 have each returned 8.8%. Hedge funds have outperformed Bonds so far in 2004, according to VAN, The Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond Index slipped -0.8% in November, bringing its year-to-date average to 3.4% .<\/p>\n
George Van, Chairman of VAN said, \u00c3\u00af\u00c2\u00bf\u00c2\u00bdThe average hedge fund couldn’t keep pace with stocks’ sharp upturn last month, but hedge funds did succeed in delivering broad-based gains in November with almost 90% of the funds in the Van Global Hedge Fund Index reporting a positive net return.”<\/p>\n
Van Hedge Fund Advisors International Hedge fund index represents the average net return of \u00c3\u00af\u00c2\u00bf\u00c2\u00bdapproximately 800 hedge funds that report to the firm. The Van U.S. Hedge Fund Index, which is calculated only from funds domiciled in the United States, performed even better with a 3.4% net gain for November.\u00c3\u00af\u00c2\u00bf\u00c2\u00bd The VAN offshore hedge fund index calculated from funds domiciled outside the United States gained 2.1 percent in November.<\/p>\n
