\"\"<\/a>New York (HedgeCo.Net) –\u00a0European\u00a0hedge fund\u00a0manager, Crispin Odey, founding partner at\u00a0$6.9 billion hedge fund, Odey Asset Management, has bought 10 million pounds’ worth of shares in Barclays, Reuters reported today.<\/p>\n

Barclays is in the middle of a scandal over interest rate rigging.\u00a0Odey already owns 60 million pounds’ worth of shares in the bank, “It’s the cheapest bank in the world,” Odey said to Reuters.<\/p>\n

Two leading credit rating agencies have taken steps today toward downgrading Barclays in the wake of the trading scandal that\u2019s seen three senior officials, including chief executive Bob Diamond, hand in their resignations.<\/p>\n

Odey came to wide attention in 2008 when he paid himself \u00a328 million ($43.7 million) after successfully anticipating the\u00a0credit crunch.\u00a0That year his return was 54.8 per cent.\u00a0<\/span>He had beenbearish\u00a0about the position of banks for a number of years,\u00a0shorting\u00a0Bradford & Bingley\u00a0as early as 2005, questioning the German\u00a0landesbanks\u00a0and warning consistently about the dangers of debt and inflated house prices. He continued his short positions into early 2009 but in April took longer positions as he predicted the market rally of that year.\u00a0<\/span>The Times\u00a0newspaper selected Odey as a “Business Big Shot” in 2008.\u00a0Odey was briefly married to\u00a0Rupert Murdoch’s\u00a0eldest daughter, Prudence, although the pair quickly separated.<\/p>\n
