\"Warren<\/a>New York (HedgeCo.Net) – Billionaire philanthropist Warren\u00a0Buffett\u00a0made a decade long bet with hedge fund manager\u00a0Prot\u00e9g\u00e9 Partners\u00a0that funds that invest in\u00a0hedge funds couldn’t beat the stock market , profit wise.<\/p>\n

The prize,\u00a0Berkshire Hathaway\u00a0stock worth almost $1.3 million as of the end of 2013, will go to the winner’s chosen charity.\u00a0Buffett’s designee is Girls Inc. of Omaha, and Prot\u00e9g\u00e9’s is Absolute Returns for Kids.<\/p>\n

Fortune<\/em>\u00a0reports\u00a0that after six years, Buffett’s fund, a\u00a0S&P index fund,\u00a0Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares,\u00a0was up 43.8%.\u00a0 For the same period, Prot\u00e9g\u00e9’s five funds of funds, on the average, gained only approximately 12.5% .<\/p>\n

A campaign specifically focusing on billionaires was made public in 2010 by\u00a0Warren Buffett\u00a0and\u00a0Bill Gates.\u00a0The Huffington Post<\/i>\u00a0reported in April 2012 that “81 billionaires committed to giving at least half of their fortunes to charity”.\u00a0As of July 2013, 113 billionaire individuals and couples and one family group have signed the pledge.
