{"id":4161,"date":"2006-03-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"the-city-challenges-united-states-as-it-doubles-share-of-hedge-fund-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/03\/2006\/the-city-challenges-united-states-as-it-doubles-share-of-hedge-fund-assets.html","title":{"rendered":"The City challenges United States as it doubles share of hedge fund assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Times Online &#8211; LONDON is steadily eroding America\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s dominance in hedge funds, with the City now home to a fifth of fund assets under management, according to International Financial Services London(IFSL).<\/p>\n<p>  As London\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s share of global assets has doubled in the past three years, America\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s share has dropped from 86 to 62 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>London\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s success has been mainly because of increased investment in hedge funds by pension funds, according to IFSL, which promotes financial services in the capital.<\/p>\n<p>  Charlie Tritton, head of alternative investments at New Star Asset Management, the fund manager, said that the industry had been helped by a favourable regulatory environment.<\/p>\n<p>  He said: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cThe European markets are also undergoing change as a result of European integration.
