{"id":4803,"date":"2006-07-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-07-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"hedge-funds-top-clients-for-many-brokers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/07\/2006\/hedge-funds-top-clients-for-many-brokers.html","title":{"rendered":"Hedge funds top clients for many brokers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reuters &#8211; Hedge funds, which tend to trade stocks more actively than institutional investors, have become the most important clients for many major brokerage firms, a new survey found, confirming awidely held view on Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p>  The survey, conducted by financial consulting firm Greenwich Associates, analyzed equity brokerage commissions paid by more than 250 institutions. They included 44 hedge funds and an assortment of  long-only investment managers, mutual funds, pension funds and banks.<\/p>\n<p>  Based on this sample, the report found that the average hedge fund paid $35 million in equity brokerage commissions in the 12 months to February 2006, with larger hedge funds managing more than $3  billion in assets averaged $54 million.<\/p>\n<p>  That compares to $20 million paid by the typical long-only investment manager, an average of $52 million by mutual funds, $11 million by pension funds and $16 million to $17 million by banks.<\/p>\n<p>  &#8220;Based on our research results and conversations with major brokers, we estimate that hedge funds could now account for as much as 30 percent of brokers&#8217; U.S. equity commission flow,&#8221; said  Greenwich consultant Jay Bennett in a news release.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/news\/url?sa=T&amp;ct=us\/7-0&amp;fd=R&amp;url=http:\/\/today.reuters.com\/investing\/financeArticle.aspx%3Ftype%3DfundsNews2%26storyID%3D2006-07-27T172418Z_01_N27189308_RTRIDST_0_FINANCIAL-HEDGE-SURVEY.XML&amp;cid=0&amp;ei=obLNRJHfIYeSogLm8_2SAg\">ReadComplete Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reuters &#8211; Hedge funds, which tend to trade stocks more actively than institutional investors, have become the most important clients for many major brokerage firms, a new survey found, confirming awidely held view on Wall Street.
