New York (HedgeCo.net) \u2013 While Iran may have come to an agreement with the United States and the United Nations regarding its nuclear operations, is the world ready to invest in Iran? What about U.S. citizens?<\/p>\n
One hedge fund manager seems to think so. Hans Humes of Greylock Capital Management recently visited Iran and came away impressed. He described the country as having a well-educated population and moving toward a modernized economy.
\nIran has been limited on its ability to issue international debt over the last three decades, but the government will likely want to capitalize on this new source of revenue as soon as they are able. The funds would likely be used to rebuild and improve infrastructure projects, especially those that help the country\u2019s oil production.
\nAccording to Humes, \u201cThe bond market appetite for everything Iranian will be pretty high,\u201d While he thinks it may take some time for the government to prepare for a debt issuance, he did state that \u201cthey\u2019re going to start tapping international markets.\u201d<\/p>\n
The possibility of U.S. citizens investing in the sovereign debt of Iran via hedge funds might be hard to wrap your head around, but we will see if the demand is as high as what Humes thinks it will be.<\/p>\n
