{"id":5077,"date":"2006-09-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-09-28T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"sec-worried-about-hedge-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/09\/2006\/sec-worried-about-hedge-funds.html","title":{"rendered":"SEC worried about Hedge Funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"writeboardbody\">  HedgeCo.Net (New York) &#8211; In an article by Marketwatch it was reported that Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement director Linda Thomsen, told a Senate panel that insider trading by hedge  funds is \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201can area of significant concern\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d to the <span class=\"caps\">SEC<\/span> and to lawmakers.  <\/p>\n<p>    In the prepared testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Thomsen told the panel the <span class=\"caps\">SEC<\/span> has brought five insider-trading cases this fiscal year involving hedge    funds, out of 44 total insider trading cases.  <\/p>\n<p>    The <span class=\"caps\">SEC<\/span> is developing new ways to monitor hedge funds following a court\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s voiding of its authority to register hedge fund advisers.  <\/p>\n<p>    The enforcement director recently said the agency is going to focus on how hedge funds and broker-dealers interact, and that broker-dealers should report insider trading by the funds.  <\/p>\n<p>    Federal securities regulators are planning to meet with organizations like the <span class=\"caps\">NASD<\/span> and the New York Stock Exchange to discuss ways to possibly beef up their joint fight    against insider-trading, the Securities and Exchange Commission official said.  <\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">    Alex Akesson<br \/>    Contributing Writer<br \/>    HedgeCo.Net<br \/>    Email: <a href=\"mailto:Editor@hedgeco.net\">Editor@hedgeco.net<\/a>   <\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p align=\"left\">      HedgeCo.Net is a premier hedge fund database and community for qualified and accredited investors only.
