{"id":5164,"date":"2006-10-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-10-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"senator-alarmed-by-lack-of-hedge-fund-transparency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/10\/2006\/senator-alarmed-by-lack-of-hedge-fund-transparency.html","title":{"rendered":"Senator Alarmed by lack of Hedge Fund Transparency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"writeboardbody\">  HedgeCo.Net (New York) &#8211; U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley said in a letter to federal agency heads that he plans to look into risks posed by hedge funds to pension funds.  <\/p>\n<p>    Grassley, a republican from Iowa, said in a letter to treasury secretary Henry Paulson and <span class=\"caps\">SEC<\/span> chairman Christopher Cox \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cto report to him on any transparency    requirements facing hedge funds\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6..Tens of millions of Americans are exposed to the risk of hedge funds through intermediaries such as pension funds, endowments and other investment pools,&#8230;.The    potential for significant losses at our nation\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s pension funds due to hedge fund investments could put the retirement security of American workers in jeopardy.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153  <\/p>\n<p>    Grassley also sent letters to labor secretary Elaine Chao, commodity futures trading commission chairman Reuben Jeffery, pension benefit director Vincent Snowbarger and six US senators among    others.  <\/p>\n<p>    In an interview with Bloomberg, Grassley said \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cIt\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s quite obvious that some hedge funds have problems, maybe even some showing criminal activity,&#8230;.We want to make sure there\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s transparency.
