E. Shaw, a $29 billion hedge fund that is among the  largest and oldest funds in the business.<\/p>\n<p>  The acquisition continued Lehman\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s strategy of buying minority stakes in hedge funds to gain exposure to the fast-growing alternative asset arena.<\/p>\n<p>  Lehman\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s purchase was announced on the same day as the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on hedge funds.
