{"id":6647,"date":"2007-10-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-10-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"hedge-funds-make-a-beeline-for-real-estate-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/10\/2007\/hedge-funds-make-a-beeline-for-real-estate-sector.html","title":{"rendered":"Hedge funds make a beeline for real estate sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<table class=\"TableClas\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" border=\"0\">\n<tr>\n<td>      Business Standard- Global hedge funds, which are on the lookout for multi-fold returns on their investments, are slowly entering the booming domestic real estate sector.    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"5\">      &nbsp;    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>      Major hedge funds operating in the Indian property markets include Och-Ziff Capital (founded by hedge fund legend Dan Och), New Vernon Capital, Farallon Capital Management (the world\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s largest      single-manager hedge fund), Marathon Realty, DE Shaw and Tiger Global (a $1.4 billion hedge fund run by ex-principals of legendary trader Julian Robertson\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Tiger Management).    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"5\">      &nbsp;    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>      Hedge funds invest in the real estate sector through three routes, namely, through the purchase of equity stakes in listed\/unlisted property developers, by direct participation in real estate      projects or by putting a part of their funds into real estate funds floated for the Indian market, according to senior industry officials.    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"5\">      &nbsp;    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>      Though hedge funds do not have India-dedicated funds, they invest in the Indian market from their global or the Asia-Pacific funds.    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"5\">      &nbsp;    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>      According to industry estimates, about $1.6 billion private equity\/hedge funds investments have been made in the real estate sector last year (Jan-Dec).
