{"id":6817,"date":"2007-11-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"hedge-funds-cant-fix-the-airlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/11\/2007\/hedge-funds-cant-fix-the-airlines.html","title":{"rendered":"Hedge Funds Can&#8217;t Fix the Airlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"default\">TheStreet.com- Since the airline industry cumulatively has failed to make money since the Wright Brothers first flew, it might seem reasonable to let the hedge funds takeover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"default\">But it&#8217;s hard to imagine there is any real likelihood for successfully executing the scheme, floated last week by hedge fund Pardus Capital Management, to merge Delta and  UAL&#8217;s United Airlines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"default\">And it&#8217;s important to remember that hedge funds&#8217; attention spans are brief, often extending only to the interval necessary to generate short-term boosts in the price of their  holdings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"default\">Pardus stirred things up in the airline industry, releasing a letter last week that urged a merger between Delta and United.
