Wall Street Journal- In addition to bulls and bears, many hedge funds are becoming more familiar with donkeys and elephants.<\/p>\n
Hedge Funds across the country, including a number with offices in lower Fairfield County, are contributing more money than ever to political campaigns, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan Washington, D.C., research group that tracks campaign finance issues.<\/p>\n
The beneficiaries of a vast majority of these donations are Democratic candidates – a surprise to those who associate the high-wealth financial services sector with Republicans – but not a shock for people familiar with the hedge fund industry and their personal politics.<\/p>\n
"It’s definitely an industry shift," said Joseph McGee, vice president of public policy for the Business Council of Fairfield County. "That’s traditionally been bedrock Republican money, and it’s not that today."<\/p>\n
