{"id":7949,"date":"2008-06-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"council-gets-set-to-press-a-tax-on-hedge-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hedgeco.net\/news\/06\/2008\/council-gets-set-to-press-a-tax-on-hedge-funds.html","title":{"rendered":"Council Gets Set To Press a Tax on Hedge Funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York Sun- A majority of the City Council is backing a tax-the-rich plan that would require hedge fund and private equity fund partners to pay a city tax on income generated by investments, making it more likely to gain traction in Albany.<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Micah Kellner, who represents the Upper East Side, recently introduced a bill that would change the city&#8217;s tax law so it would apply to hedge fund and private equity managers.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-six of the council&#8217;s 51 members signed a letter in support of the tax proposal, which is being touted as a way to raise more than $200 million a year.
