HedgeCo.Net \u2014 Starcloud, the Redmond, Washington startup building orbital data-center satellites, told TechCrunch it has added a $250 million extension to its March Series A. The extension values the company at $2.3 billion. SpaceNews, writing from the company\u2019s August 21 announcement, independently put the same $250 million, the same $2.3 billion mark, and total capital raised since 2024 at $450 million. Manhattan West led. Nvidia and Cisco participated. That $250 million is this extension\u2019s check. It is not the March round, and it is not a launch contract.<\/p>\n
TechCrunch said the March Series A was $170 million; $250 million plus $170 million is how the $450 million cumulative figure adds. SpaceNews said the extension \u201cdoubled its valuation to $2.3 billion.\u201d Treat $2.3 billion as the companies\u2019 post-money language for this round. A person familiar with the deal told TechCrunch that Nvidia put in $25 million. That ticket is single-source. Do not print it. Nvidia\u2019s participation is dual-sourced. The dollar is not.<\/p>\n
The use of proceeds is manufacturing and launch. Both outlets said the capital supports a 100,000-square-foot facility in Woodinville, Washington, and the larger Starcloud-3 spacecraft intended to fly on SpaceX\u2019s Starship. TechCrunch said two 8 kW Starcloud-2 satellites are aimed at 2027 rideshares. SpaceNews said Starcloud has filed with U.S. regulators for as many as 88,000 satellites. An FCC filing is a request. It is not an authorization and not a constellation in orbit.<\/p>\n
This is a priced Series A extension, not a continuation vehicle and not a take-private. Allocators should mark Manhattan West as the lead, $250 million as the new check, $2.3 billion as the round valuation, and $450 million as cumulative equity since 2024. Do not recast an orbital-compute raise as a SpaceX launch slot, and do not treat an 88,000-satellite filing as a booked fleet.<\/p>\n
The second-order read is launch scarcity as a cap-table problem. CEO Philip Johnston told TechCrunch the firm is raising in part because Falcon 9 capacity is tightening as SpaceX shifts toward Starship.
