One set of prints bought platforms that own books. Another set bought rails that let someone else get capital out, or in, without owning the franchise. Mark which side of that line you are underwriting.

The platform side is specific. Victory Capital signed a definitive agreement to acquire First Eagle Investments for about $7.0 billion in cash and stock, including assumption of $575 million of notes, and put a $41 billion CLO and alternative-credit sleeve into the combined alternatives book. That is a signed change of control on a credit platform, not a new commingled raise, and close is still gated into early 2027. Steadfast signed a binding scheme implementation deed at A$6.00 a share, about A$7.7 billion of enterprise value, with Amwins taking agencies and Dragoneer and KKR taking broking. That is a split of a listed group into two buyer sleeves, still subject to shareholder, court, and regulatory votes. RockawayX bought Relayer Capital and reopened it as a liquid opportunities book aimed at tokens and crypto equities; the purchase terms were not disclosed, and a $150 million fundraising figure sat in secondary reporting, not in a confirmed close. GenNx360 closed an oversubscribed $865 million Fund IV, its largest flagship, already five deals into the book. Those four prints own or build the franchise. They do not, by themselves, create an exit path for someone else’s limited partner.

The liquidity side is a different legal object. StepStone closed $1.7 billion for StepStone Secondaries Infrastructure Fund and related separate accounts, with the commingled vehicle at a hard-capped $1.5 billion and already about half deployed across 26 LP-interest and GP-led deals. That capital is buying other people’s infrastructure interests, not founding a new operating platform. Azalea packaged more than US$1 billion across three PE access vehicles, including more than US$350 million into Azalea All Access, a fully paid-in evergreen of secondaries and co-investments with monthly subscriptions and quarterly redemptions. Altrium III’s US$526 million final close and ACF II’s US$210 million first close were June and July vintage; Monday’s print is the packaging with the semi-liquid sleeve. JANA opened its Private Credit Trust to wholesale investors at $270 million already in from institutional money, with Arcmont and Jefferies Credit Partners on customized U.S. and European direct-lending mandates. Ethena and FalconX opened a $1 billion secured warehouse for USDe-backed institutional loans; the $1 billion is capacity through a bankruptcy-remote vehicle, not day-one draws. Spot bitcoin ETFs printed a ninth straight inflow session at $242.3 million on August 27. Those are rails: secondaries, evergreen access, wholesale wrappers, on-chain credit capacity, and public ETF tape.

The allocator question is which object you are marking. If the week is Victory’s $7 billion First Eagle agreement and Steadfast’s A$7.7 billion scheme deed, the diligence is who owns the P&L after close, what credit sleeve travels with it, and which approvals still sit between announcement and settlement. If the week is StepStone’s $1.7 billion infrastructure secondaries close, Azalea’s evergreen sleeve, JANA’s $270 million wholesale trust, or Ethena’s $1 billion warehouse ceiling, the diligence is who can redeem, who can sell the interest, and what happens when the underlying book is wrong. Do not add a platform buy to a secondary close and call it one raise. Do not mark capacity as deployment, an evergreen as a closed-end flagship, or a scheme deed as a funded close. Buying the platform does not buy you liquidity, and buying the liquidity rail does not buy you the franchise.

HedgeCo.Net — This week’s dollars split cleanly if you stop adding them.
