HedgeCo.Net \u2014 Toronto- and London-based Intrepid Growth Partners announced on September 14 a final close of its inaugural AI-focused growth fund at $525 million USD (about C$730 million), about $25 million above target, according to BetaKit and independently covered by The Globe and Mail and The Next Web. More than 80 limited partners backed the vehicle, including Temasek, the Abu Dhabi Investment Council, the British Business Bank, Export Development Canada, and BDC. Co-founder Mark Machin told The Globe and Mail capital was about 45% Canada, 30% Asia\/Middle East, 15% Europe\/UK, and 10% U.S.<\/p>\n

The firm has already invested in nine companies and writes checks up to about $50 million, per that same reporting. The Next Web\u2019s wrap reiterated the $525 million close, the sovereign and state LP list, and cited portfolio examples including PhysicsX and StackAdapt.<\/p>\n

This is an inaugural hard final close above target, not a first closing or a soft commitment.
