But as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/3cd7b992-dc84-11dd-a2a9-000077b07658.html\" target=\"_blank\">this report<\/a> in yesterday&#8217;s FT points out, the lines between &ldquo;traditional&rdquo; and &ldquo;alternative&rdquo; are blurring quickly. The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) has been an ardent defender of the hedge fund industry against what it sees as unfair criticisms in the media (see <a href=\"http:\/\/allaboutalpha.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/08\/aima-comes-out-swinging\/\" target=\"_blank\">related<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/allaboutalpha.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/27\/respected-columnist-warns-on-hedge-funds-prompting-response-from-aima-chapter\/\" target=\"_blank\">posts<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>But now associations of &ldquo;traditional&rdquo; investment managers have come to the defense of short-selling.
