SurModics placates hedge fund

Star Tribune – The Eden Prairie-based biopharmaceutical company SurModics said Wednesday that it has resolved a dispute with an activist hedge fund by appointing two of the fund’s candidates to its board.

New York-based Ramius LLC had nominated three directors to join SurModics’ board late last year, claiming the company has been hard hit by a series of “failed growth investments, failed acquisitions and excessive spending.”
