New York (HedgeCo.net) – Morgan Stanley’s annual investment conference in Palm Beach, Florida is taking place this week and if the collective sentiment toward stocks is accurate, the start of 2016 is just the beginning.
A recent Reuters’ article highlighted some of the comments from those in attendance including Paul Tudor Jones. During a panel discussion, Jones expressed bearish opinions on commodities and specifically oil.
Dmitry Balyasny, head of Balyasny Asset Management, voiced a bearish view of energy stocks citing declining oil and gas prices.
Noted short-seller Jim Chanos expressed his bearish view on Chinese stocks and economy. The article quoted him as saying that China was on a “treadmill to hell,” and he warned that China’s debt levels are unsustainable.
Chanos wasn’t alone in his bearish views toward China. Kevin Kenny of the Emerging Sovereign Group also voiced a bearish opinion toward the country’s currency and is currently sitting on a highly profitable bearish position on the yuan.
The conference is closed to members of the press, meaning that the quotes and viewpoints are gathered from second-hand accounts.
