BusinessWeek – Hedge-fund rules proposed by the European Union aren’t protectionist, the bloc’s financial services chief told U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner.
“I am convinced that access to the European single market should be granted to managers and funds domiciled in third countries, including the U.S., provided that high level standards of transparency and security are agreed,” Barnier wrote, according to the copy of the letter dated March 29.
