Mercury News – San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed’s longtime goal to appoint outside finance experts to the two boards that oversee city pension funds was mostly completed Thursday after the City Council named seven candidates to open seats.
The six men and one woman selected Thursday — after an interview process that lasted four hours — bring experience including work with venture capital and hedge fund management. They will now tackle the city’s combined $3.9 billion employee pension system, which has seen values plummet in recent years amid market fluctuations.
