Final Approval for E.U. Hedge Fund Rules

New York Times – The European Union agreed Tuesday after drawn-out negotiations to new rules for hedge funds, having gained the approval of the European Parliament to regulate more thoroughly the 2 trillion euro industry.

“Today, the European Parliament and the member states have reached an agreement,” said Michel Barnier, the E.U.’s financial services commissioner, “which will introduce, for the first time, European regulation for the managers of alternative investment funds, including hedge funds and private equity.”
