New York (HedgeCo.Net) – EY’s 2014 Global Hedge Fund and Investor Survey, which was released today. The eight annual survey is titled, “Shifting strategies: winning investor assets in a competitive landscape,” and brings us the following insight into the hedge fund industry:
· Hedge fund managers are investing more heavily in new products, responding to changing investor allocation strategies.
· Although the purpose of new product investment is to drive growth, some managers are underestimating the impact new products have on margins.
· Smaller funds are struggling with raising capital for new products.
· 80% of managers plan to spend more on cybersecurity, but few have invested already.
· Fewer than one in three investors are confident in their managers’ cybersecurity policies.
· 13% of institutional investors plan to increase their allocation to traditional hedge funds in the next three years.
· Regulatory reporting is hurting margins and creating a barrier to entry.
