Bahrain to attend Islamic Finance meet in Cape Town, BAHRAIN TRIBUNE

A delegation from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) will take part in the First Islamic Finance and Investment Conference to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Center from September 1. The three-day conference is being hosted by Oasis Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd. and coordinated in conjunction with Islamic Conferences in the UK.
The invitation was extended to the BCCI at a meeting between the chamber’s First Deputy Chairman, Yousef Al Saleh, and the Ambassador of South Africa, Abdulhamied Gabier.
The conference is expected to attract between 250 and 300 international delegates, including heads of state and leaders of global financial institutions.
The event will provide a unique global perspective on Islamic finance concerns, with a critical focus on low-risk solutions in Islamic finance and emerging markets as investment destinations of choice.
Key speakers will include business leaders of major emerging market corporations and international and domestic regulators. The addresses will include key contributions from top-profile government officials and senior dignitaries. Shariah scholars to speak at the forum include Shaikh Nizam Yaquby from Bahrain, Dr Mohammed Elgari from Saudi Arabia, Talal Delorenzo from the US, Daud Bakar from Malaysia and Dr M. A. Zaki Badawi from the UK.
The Deputy Governor of the Bahrain Monetary Agency, Khalid Abdullah Al Bassam, will speak on key Islamic financing hubs.
Other speakers will focus on a variety of issues that include, principles of Shariah and application to product development process, Globalization and impact on Islamic financial institutions, Dow Jones Islamic market indices and Islamic equity funds performance, South African fiscal and regulatory environment, Key Islamic financing hubs, Islamic investments, Islamic fund development, Islamic balanced funds, Conventional institutions and Islamic, financial products, Takaful: Introduction to the basics global Islamic institutional investment, Emerging market opportunities: South Africa focus, investment in South Africa, a private equity, Islamic hedge funds, Developing economies focus and initiatives in Africa.
Al Saleh and the South African Ambassador discussed means of bolstering trade and economic cooperation. Al Saleh proposed an exhibition of catalogues in Bahrain to promote products from South Africa and its various economic activities.
He said that the exhibition would be an opportunity for Bahraini traders to learn about South Africa products and whether they were suitable for the local market.
”The exhibition will also be an opportunity for Bahraini and South African investors to discuss various investment opportunities in both countries,” Al Saleh said, adding that the exhibition would be instrumental in facilitating the hosting of a larger exhibition on South African industries.
