Tilneys Wharton bangs the drum for hedge funds

Tilney Investment Management director Paul Wharton is shunning private equity in favour of hedge funds, which he believes offer greater options for investors.

Speaking at the Institute of Financial Planning last week, Wharton, who runs private client portfolios, said he is yet to be convinced by the benefits of private equity despite its growing popularity.

He said: ‘Hedge funds are increasing in popularity and although they are not a panacea they do bring a range of strategies that are not available in equity fund management. Hedge funds are useful to enhance return and mitigate risk.
