Daily Telegraph- The sensation of having had too much of a good thing must be pretty universal by now, as we stagger into the final binge of an extended Christmas and New Year break. In my own case,the good thing of which I’ve had too much happens to be A Christmas Carol.
Having directed six sell-out performances of my own adaptation at our local arts centre in Yorkshire, I watched three different film versions on television and lost count of the number of references elsewhere.
It may be coincidence that Dickens’s classic has been flogged so hard this year, or it may be that its message about the need for personal benevolence has particular resonance at a moment when forgotten hardships may be about to return.
