Dailypress.com – RICHMOND – Seats on Media General Inc.’s board of directors might not be as easy to obtain for a dissident shareholder group that had recent success gaining access at the New York Times Co.
Harbinger Capital Partners is seeking changes at the Richmond-based newspaper publisher and television station operator by nominating a slate of three directors at the company’s annual meeting this spring.
The hedge fund, which holds about 18 percent of the Class A shares of Media General, was recently able to get the Times to support two people nominated by the hedge fund as directors.
But the company that publishes the Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Tampa Tribune and Winston-Salem Journal doesn’t plan on giving in.
