HedgeCo.Net — Blackstone announced the final close of Blackstone European Senior Direct Lending Fund IV, or BXDE IV, and said that across BXDE IV and other European direct lending vehicles, including anticipated leverage, the firm has closed on about €13 billion of investable capital since the fund’s launch. The November 4 statement framed the raise as evidence of strong investor demand for European private credit.
BXDE IV targets high-quality European borrowers across the size spectrum, with a focus on the middle and upper middle market. Since launch, Blackstone said it has also committed significant capital across European private credit, including lead-lender roles in Angelini Pharma’s take-private of Catalyst Pharmaceuticals (€1.0 billion), Regnology (€780 million), Odevo (€649 million) and JTC (€382 million). The firm has more than two decades of credit investing in Europe spanning direct lending, infrastructure and asset-based credit, and CLOs.
Blackstone Credit & Insurance now has more than 100 investment professionals across five European offices in London, Dublin, Frankfurt, Milan and Paris. Brad Marshall, global head of private credit strategies, said the fundraise reflects investor confidence in private credit and Blackstone’s ability to deliver scaled financing across market cycles. Mike Carruthers, European head of private credit strategies, said Europe remains one of the most attractive private credit markets globally, with borrowers valuing certainty, scale and flexibility.
Credit is a significant part of the opportunity Blackstone sees to invest in more than $500 billion of assets in Europe by 2035. The BXDE IV close sits inside that longer-term European deployment thesis rather than as a standalone fundraising anecdote.
For allocators, the figure that matters is investable capital including anticipated leverage across the European direct lending complex, not a single fund AUM print. Diligence questions include pacing versus the deal pipeline already disclosed, concentration in upper middle-market sponsor finance, and how the five-office European platform competes on certainty and speed against other scaled direct lenders.
