WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HEDGECO.NET) – The Alternative Investment Management Association [AIMA] has released a new guide for Canadian hedge fund managers, the report covers all aspects of hedge fundbusiness, from creating hedge funds to hedge fund management obligations.AIMA established the Canadian chapter of the organization in March, 2003, and membership to the organization has grown to over50 corporate members according to information from the group.
The report was modeled after a similar report produced for the European hedge fund managers, the Guide to Sound Practices for European Hedge Fund Managers (the European Guide) was released on August 30, 2002. That report was compiled in conjunction with leading European hedge fund industry participants and has proved enormously popular.
The Canadian Guide provides an overview of the many issues that should be considered by a Hedge Fund manager who manages funds in Canada, but is not intended to set out definitive standards or an exhaustive list of requirements that could serve as a benchmark against which conduct should be assessed. The new guide, dubbed Sound Practices for Canadian Hedge Fund Managers includes such issues as Hedge fund investment process, Portfolio Risk Management, Administration and Operational Controls, and Hedge fund structure and organization.
According to AIMA, its primary objectives are to increase investor education, transparency and promote due diligence as well as to work closely with regulators to better promote and monitor the use of alternative investments. With rapid global growth of the hedge fund industry, the need for Hedge Fund managers and their service providers to provide sound professional services as well as increased transparency has never been greater.
