WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HEDGECO.NET) – As the hedge fund industry continues to grow, assets managed by the industry continue to increase from year to year. The global hedge fund industry currentlymanages over US$800 billion, according to published reports. With such growth, experienced and talented hedge fund managers are harder to find, according to a new survey conducted by Infovest21.
In the same survey conducted in January and February, respondents raised a concern that good hedge fund managers are harder to come by. Such an opinion was particularly stronger among endowments and foundations. According to the results of the poll, over 25% of those polled said they are concerned about a capacity constraint problem.
Respondents were also concerned about another problem � lack of manager talent, along with a concern over manager fraud and poor performance. This survey also found out that hedge fund investors are more experienced today compared to the poll conducted by Infovest21 about two years ago. Today�s hedge fund investors have also increased expectations, according to the new study.
Details of the poll show that more than 60% of the study�s respondents have about 5 years of investment experience. Consequently such investors have increased their investment portfolios from a previous 53% to about 61%. Today�s hedge fund investors expect an annual return of about 12%. Two years ago, such an expectation stood at about 8%, according to the survey.
However the study showed that long-short equity strategy continued to account for about 50% of investor portfolios as it did in the previous study of two years ago. The least experienced investor category went to endowments and foundations, focusing more on the issue of manager character and integrity. The most conservative hedge fund investor category went to pension funds, according to the survey.
