CLIMBING FOR CHARITY: HEDGE FUND PROFESSIONALS ATTEMPT MT. KILIMANJARO

BERMUDA, HAMILTON, March 2, 2006 – Robin Bedford, President of Dundee Leeds and Charles H. Dufresne, Jr., an attorney at Abbey Gardy, LLP are preparing to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world, on March 12-17, in order to raise money for Hedge Funds Care, a group of Hedge Fund professionals committed to protecting children from abuse and neglect.

Otherwise known as the ‘Roof of Africa’, and standing at 5,895m / 19,340 feet, it is the highest mountain in the world that can be climbed without technical equipment. Preparation has been crucial and both men have been following a rigorous training regime in order to ensure their success.

“Building up core fitness has been an important part of our preparations” says Bedford. “Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the world that can be conquered without true climbing skills and apparatus, but despite this it is still a true challenge as many climbers die on its slopes each year.”

Bedford and Dufresne are climbing in order to raise money for charity, and chose Hedge Funds Care to be the beneficiary. “A few of my friends were abused as children. I see the effect that had on them – their outlook on life, their general lack of trust in humanity” says Dufresne. Bedford continues “It is imperative that somebody is out there watching and trying to prevent the abuse of children before it starts. We know that at Hedge Funds Care every dollar raised will have a profound impact on the child that it goes to protect.”
