E.U. Proposes Bank Levy to Pay for Future Crises

NYT – A European Union official proposed Wednesday that member states tax banks to raise money for a fund that would be used specifically to manage future financial crises.

But although the idea of such a fund is popular in Europe — winning backing even among banks — the proposal from the European Commission faces political hurdles before it can be submitted to the Group of 20 summit next month, The New York Times’s James Kanter and Jack Ewing write.
