Glen Dailey, Managing Director and Head of Prime Brokerage of Jefferies LLC and a hedge fund industry pioneer, has been named as the recipient of the 2013 Sustainability Achievement Award by Solar One, the leading think tank for environmental education in New York City and a national beacon for solar power. The award will be presented to Mr. Dailey at Solar One’s 2013 Fall Equinox Party, considered one of the highlights of New York’s philanthropic season, which will take place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York on Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 from 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm.
‘Glen is being honored with the 2013 Sustainability Achievement Award for his vision and leadership in greening the global hedge fund industry by creating a paperless, internet-based communications network for a major service provider — primebroker.com,’ said Chris Collins, Executive Director of Solar One. ‘He has also been selected by Solar One’s board of directors for this distinguished award for his humanitarian efforts for children and his commitment to the education of today’s youth and future generations which is the bellwether of Solar One.’
Past honorees include Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room, HSBC USA, Ashok Gupta of the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and actor Matthew Modine, among others. Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy and Elettra Wiedemann have received the Young Environmentalist Award.
‘I am very honored to be the recipient of this award, and very humbled to be in the company of the past recipients. It is also very exciting to be a part of this evening with family and friends that will help build Solar 2, a place where school children and their families – as well as others from all over the world — will be able to learn how to become stewards of the planet. As the father of school age children, I cannot think of a greater legacy we could give to our children and future generations,’ commented Mr. Dailey.
Five hundred people — including many members of the hedge fund industry as well as other leaders from business, financial services, fashion, communications, government, entertainment and philanthropy – are anticipated to attend the high profile fundraising event. Proceeds from the evening will fund Solar 2, a state-of-the-art green building that will rise on Manhattan’s East River waterfront at 23rd Street in Stuyvesant Cove. Solar 2 will be New York City’s first LEED-Platinum, energy-positive, clean technology demonstration arts and education center and a global destination for sustainability and climate change education.
