UBS AG Strategist Defects to Hedge Fund Management

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (www.hedgeco.net) – Another traditional asset manager and strategist have moved over to the arena of hedge fund management in an unending trend which has seen many traditionalasset managers cross over to the realm of hedge fund management. According to news reports, Gary Gordon, UBS AG’s head of U.S. equities strategy is leaving his company to join Valmiki Capital, ahedge fund Management Group.

Rayi Suria, a former convertible strategy analyst, organized Valmiki Hedge Fund. Suria urged investors in 2000 to avoid Amazon.com convertibles, many investors heeded the warning, leading to a drop in Amazons share price.

Gordon joined the traditional asset management firm of PaineWebber in 1998, prior to the UBS acquisition of PaineWebber. Banks sources declined to neither confirm nor deny such reports, and Gordon was not available for any remarks on the report.

Few days ago it was reported that veteran asset manager, John Mack, formerly a Credit Suisse First Boston Chief Executive and a longtime Wall Street money manager has defected to a hedge fund company. Mack was named as the new Chairman of Pequot Capital Management. Significant numbers of traditional asset managers have moved over to the hedge fund management arena attracted by greater compensation packages being offered to hedge fund managers.
