PALO ALTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. 18, 2003–Summit Partners, a leading global private equity and venture capital firm, today announced that it has named Harrison B. Miller general partner ofthe Summit Accelerator Fund, the venture capital arm of Summit Partners. Miller was previously an associate with the firm from 1988 to 1990.
In this position, Miller will invest in rapidly growing, profitable companies with capital needs of $2 million to $10 million. He will work with companies in a broad range of industries including technology, healthcare and life sciences, business services, financial services, industrial products, and consumer products.
Most recently, Miller was Vice President and General Manager of Platform Services at Amazon.com, where he led the creation of an enterprise services business that became the firm’s most profitable segment in fiscal year 2002. He also led Amazon’s retail business debut in children’s products, and both conceived and operated Amazon’s strategic business alliance with Toys R Us.
Prior to Amazon, Miller was a member of the founding management team at Lightspan Inc. (NASDAQ: LSPN), an e-learning leader selling software and Internet-delivered services to institutions. At Lightspan, he held a number of senior roles as the team built the company from a concept to $25 million in sales and eventually took it public.
Prior to Lightspan, Miller was an associate with Summit Partners in the firm’s Boston office. At Summit, he helped identify attractive industry sectors and companies for investment.
Miller began his career as a teacher and a cofounder of a not-for-profit overseas development organization. He holds an MBA from Stanford Business School, and a BA from Princeton University.
