NYT – With the mercury rising — along with an increase in air-conditioning demand — hedge funds last week upped the ante on natural gas prices believing they will rise for the first time in six weeks, Bloomberg News reported.
Natural gas climbed every day last week, to advance 7.9 percent, to $4.923 per million British thermal units on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the news agency said. Hedge funds and other large speculators increased their already bullish bets by 14 percent the week ended July 27, according to a report by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
