New York (HedgeCo.Net) – Now for some weird news: Preet Bharara announced the arrest of Kristen Davis, a former hedge fund administrator who spent four months in prison for running a prostitution ring. She is also running against Eliot Spitzer as a candidate for New York City comptroller.
Davis has been charged with selling prescription pills containing controlled substances, including oxycodone, for cash.
“As alleged, Kristin Davis sold dangerous and highly addictive prescription pills to a known drug dealer on repeated occasions in exchange for cash. Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in this country, resulting in more overdose deaths than heroin and cocaine combined, and this office has a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone who helps to spread this plague at any level.” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
The FBI said that Davis sold hundreds of prescription pills containing amphetamine, alprazolam, zolpidem, and carisoprodol to a person she knew from prior purchases and sales to be a drug dealer. The person however, was a cooperating witness with the FBI and equipped with a recording device. She has been charged with four counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
