Helcim Closed a C$53 Million Series C at a C$250 Million Mark, BDC Leading:

HedgeCo.Net — Helcim, the Calgary payments processor for small and mid-sized businesses, said Friday it closed a C$53 million Series C led by BDC Capital’s Growth Venture Fund. The company press release put the round’s valuation at C$250 million, up from C$97 million at the 2024 Series B, and said total equity raised since the 2022 Series A is now C$100 million. BetaKit independently reported the same C$53 million, the same BDC lead, and the same C$250 million mark. That C$53 million is Canadian dollars. It is not a U.S.-dollar close.

New money sat alongside re-ups. The release named Curql Collective, a fund backed by more than 160 North American credit unions, and Gold House Ventures as new participants, with Headline, Aquiline, Information Venture Partners, Vesey Ventures, Clocktower Ventures, and Alberta Accelerate Fund returning. BetaKit carried the same roster. Treat Curql as a credit-union strategic, not as a buyout fund. The company said it crossed C$150 million of annual recurring revenue last year. That ARR figure is the company’s. It is not a second-source audit.

The raise is being sold against a bank exit from merchant acquiring. The release and BetaKit both framed Helcim as filling a gap after large Canadian banks sold or outsourced merchant-services books, including the sale of Moneris. That is industry context. It is not a Helcim volume print and not a priced acquisition of Moneris.

This is a priced Series C, not a take-private and not a processor roll-up. Allocators should mark C$53 million as the check, C$250 million as the private mark, and BDC as the lead. Do not convert those Canadian-dollar figures into U.S. dollars without a stated FX, and do not add the C$100 million cumulative equity into this round’s cheque.

The second-order read is who owns Canadian SME acquiring when the bank-owned processors leave. A development-bank lead plus a credit-union collective is a different cap table from a U.S. growth fund. Anyone treating a C$250 million payments mark as a listed acquirer multiple is mixing a private round with a bank carve-out.
