WEST PALM BEACH, FL (HedgeCo.Net) – Another UK Pension fund manager, Dorset County Pension Fund has devoted five percent of its total assets to hedge fund managers. According to Nick Buckland, aninvestment officer with the fund, the investment committee has devoted about BP 45 million of its assets to two hedge fund managers. According to him, Pioneer Alternative Investments was one of thetwo chosen hedge fund managers, Buckland however declined to name the second chosen manager out of the pool of 60 candidates.
Pioneer Alternative Investments received a BP22.5 million allocation, which according to published reports will be invested in Momentum AllWeather Sterling Fund. Commenting on such allocation, Pioneer�s head of sales and distribution for the UK Nigel Meir said, �UK institutions and the consultants that guide them are among the most demanding investors in the world and we had very strong competition, I believe that more institutions will allocate to funds of hedge funds in particular and this endorsement can only serve to give confidence to prospective investors.� He added, �AllWeather has the type of track record that can complement both the risk control and liability models of defined benefit pension schemes.�
A new survey conducted by EPN shows that an increasing number of European Pension Funds are interested in hedge fund investment products. EPN surveyed nine mainstream investment managers overseeing about US$25 billion, the poll result shows that such managers have invested about US$9.5 billion in hedge fund management vehicles. One of the pension fund managers included in the EPN study, Jan Henrik Franck said, �Hedge funds are on the agenda for us and we will be having discussions with our board of directors to see whether we agree on it being a viable option. There is no doubting the potential benefits of having hedge funds in your portfolio and, as an asset class, they are here to stay.�
