Investment Ideas from the Sohn Investment Conference in Tel Aviv

New York (HedgeCo.net) – At the Sohn Investment Conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, noted hedge fund managers offered up their thoughts on where to invest right now. Among the ideas were several blue-chip stocks as well as several banks. There were also suggestions of holding gold as well as emerging market currencies.

Here are the ideas offered up:

ION Asset Management – recommended shorting shares in Israeli Cable Operator Altice.
Paul McNamara, investment director at GAM Holding Inc.—the firm is buying emerging market currencies, specifically the Brazilian real, the Mexican Peso, the Indonesian rupiah and the Colombian peso. Paul Singer, CEO at Elliott Management—believes investors should maintain 5-10% in gold as protection against paper currencies being degraded by zero interest rate monetary policies. Raanan Agus, co-head Goldman Sachs Investment Partners – bullish on Royal Bank of Scotland. Stuart Roden, chairman with Lansdowne Partners—bullish on German real estate, Disney, Nike and Lloyds Banking Group.
