Aphias Capital Closed Its Inaugural Private Equity Fund Above Its Hard Cap at Just Over $1.05 Billion

HedgeCo.Net — Aphias Capital, a sector-focused lower-middle-market private equity firm, has held the final close of Aphias Capital Fund I with just over $1.05 billion in total capital commitments, exceeding the fund’s hard cap. Kirkland & Ellis, which advised the firm, announced the close on October 8.

The oversubscribed debut fund drew a broad base of global investors, including public pension plans, health systems, insurance companies, endowments and foundations, family offices, funds of funds and other financial institutions. An amended SEC Form D filing for the fund reports $1,055,968,750 sold across 52 investors.

Aphias makes control investments in North American healthcare services and essential services companies with recurring demand. The firm targets businesses with $5 million to $30 million of EBITDA at initial investment and seeks to accelerate growth, expand the use of technology and strengthen operations.

The Kirkland team spanned investment funds, regulatory, tax, ERISA, debt finance and financial services regulatory lawyers, reflecting the institutional structure the first-time manager assembled for its debut vehicle.

First-time funds above $1 billion remain rare in a market where limited partners have concentrated commitments with established managers. A hard-cap close for a debut vehicle suggests continued appetite for specialist strategies in the lower middle market, where entry multiples tend to be lower and operational improvement can drive returns.
