HedgeCo.Net — CVC Capital Partners is in the very early stages of assessing a bid to take Verisure private, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a person familiar with the matter, after the Financial Times first reported the buyout firm’s interest. The move would come less than a year after Hellman & Friedman floated the Swedish security company in Stockholm. No offer has been made and there is no guarantee CVC will pursue a deal, the person said. Verisure and CVC declined to comment.
Verisure provides professionally monitored security services in 18 countries across Europe and Latin America. Hellman & Friedman listed the company in October 2025 at a valuation of €13.7 billion. Its market value has since fallen to about €9.7 billion, according to LSEG data, and the shares are down more than 33% so far this year. Hellman & Friedman remains the largest shareholder with a 43.62% stake.
That gap frames the math for any bidder. At about €9.7 billion, a buyer would need to pay a premium of roughly 41% just to match the IPO valuation, according to a calculation by CTOL Digital Solutions. A standard take-private premium could therefore land a bid close to where public investors bought in a year ago, offering them a path to recover their entry price and giving Hellman & Friedman a route to exit a large holding that the public market has been slow to absorb.
The episode also shows a broader pattern in European private equity. Sponsors that used IPOs to exit large assets have struggled to sell down remaining stakes when post-listing performance disappoints, and rival funds with large undeployed capital have shown a willingness to bid for recently listed companies trading below their offer price.
Any approach would face practical hurdles, including the size of the equity check, financing costs in a higher-rate environment and the need to win over a controlling holder with its own view on value. For now, the report is best read as an early signal that public-to-private arbitrage is back on the table for large European assets.
