HedgeCo.Net — FFL Partners, the San Francisco private equity firm focused on growth investments, has closed FFL Capital Partners VI and related vehicles with more than $1.35 billion of total commitments. The fund is 50% larger than its predecessor, Fund V, and finished well above its $1 billion target.
The firm said commitments came from a broad mix of longtime and new investors, including public and private pensions, financial institutions, insurance companies, endowments and foundations, and family offices. “Due to our strong historical performance, FFL has been on the radar of larger investors throughout this fundraising process, enabling us to successfully close well above our $1 billion target in a challenging fundraising environment,” said managing partner Cas Schneller.
Fund VI will keep the firm’s Sector Exploration and Expertise Development strategy, which FFL calls SEED, focusing on healthcare and tech-enabled services companies with attractive growth, competitive positions, muted cyclicality and strong management teams. The fund plans equity investments of $50 million to $200 million in control or significant minority transactions.
The close is a useful data point on where middle-market fundraising is landing. While many sponsors have spent longer on the road and settled for flat or smaller successor funds, managers with a narrow sector focus and realized performance continue to raise step-ups. An earlier SEC Form D filing for the fund, dated December 2025, showed about $364 million raised from 34 investors at that stage, suggesting the bulk of the capital came in during 2026.
For limited partners, the check size range places FFL between lower-middle-market specialists and large-cap sponsors, a segment where healthcare services and tech-enabled services have been among the most active categories for both platform deals and add-ons. The willingness to take significant minority positions also gives the firm flexibility in founder-led businesses that are not ready for a full sale.
